Exam Seat Plan - Seating Management

A seating management system built for the RTE Department at Informatics College Pokhara. Automates exam seat plan generation, lets staff manage rooms and invigilators, and gives students a fast way to look up their assigned seats. Deployed for the department, with Excel export and a separate student lookup.

What I Built

  • Built the React frontend - 77 of the repository's 128 commits - covering the admin panel, the exam creation wizard, and the room and invigilator management around them.

  • Wrote the seat plan views: the plan itself, the draft list, and the student seat finder, including the lookup that tells a student where they sit without needing an account.

  • Made the seat plan export as a real .xlsx by unzipping a template with JSZip, rewriting sharedStrings.xml, injecting the generated rows into each xl/worksheets/sheetN.xml, and rezipping - so the file the department prints on exam day opens in Excel.

  • Helped design the Django REST API underneath it - the endpoint layout and the JWT auth flow - alongside the team of four that built the backend.
